Last month, the BBC announced a new digital innovation unit, dubbed the Guerrilla Group, to be based at Fazeley Studios in Digbeth.
The Guerrilla Group aims to explore the next generation of BBC content, with a focus on engaging younger and more diverse audiences. The first members of the team will move in later this year, with the unit fully up and running from 2015.
This is clearly fantastic news for the city, considering the Beeb’s recent choice to focus on Salford in Manchester instead of Birmingham. It should also act a booster to Birmingham City Council’s aim to make Digbeth a centre for digital entrepreneurship and creativity.
Along with internal BBC teams, the Guerrilla Group will partner and collaborate with a range of start-ups and SMEs, which spells great news for organisations already working in Digbeth or planning to move here.
We certainly hope that this bold move from the BBC will help cement Digbeth as an innovation hub, and possibly act as a catalyst to attract more businesses into the area.
