The ‘Headz’ exhibition of ‘The Photographic Art of Pete Williams‘ opens this Friday at the Sauce Gallery in the Custard Factory, and things kick off with a launch event this Friday 16th July 1pm-8pm – with live music from the jazz-tastic Digby Fairweather.
The exhibition remains in the Sauce Gallery until 4th September.
On Saturday I paid a visit to the Custard Factory to check out the MOM exhibition in the Sauce Gallery, which is well worth a look if you get the chance. I also hoped to pick up some vintage treats in Urban Village‘s new store in the Zellig building, which laid on quite a large-scale Modfest for its opening that day.
Gibb Street was packed with incredibly sharp dressers, who could barely move for mopheads.
Shoppers even got to enjoy some lovely live music in the sunshine.
A good time was had by all, especially Urban Village’s Frankie Johns.

The MOM exhibition is on display until Thurs 8th July. Urban Village is selling funktastic retro gear in its new Zellig building store 11am-6pm Weds-Fri and 11am-5pm on Saturdays.
Today is Digbeth is Good’s second birthday! Please join me for celebration drinkies and a slice of the above cake, lovingly made by Mrs Rawlins. We’ll be in The Spotted Dog from 6pm this evening.
So that’s Friday and Monday with me firmly planted in my second home The Spotted Dog. I’m planning to spend a little of the time in between checking out the MOM (Meeting Of Minds) exhibition at the Sauce Gallery, Custard Factory. I’m also hoping to sample the delights of the newly opened Cleary’s on Moseley Street, the phoenix to rise from the ashes of the lovely pub that was demolished along with some back-to-backs on Cheapside to make way for a barren building site. Grrrr….
Here’s some photos from Punch Records of the Mitchy Bwoy Exhibition Launch in the Sauce Gallery, Custard Factory on 14th April. This must have been the first Digbeth barbecue of the year – a brave move that paid off with fine weather and a good turn-out. The exhibition is in the Sauce Gallery until June.
Here’s artist Swifty putting the finishing touches to his shop installation at the Sauce Gallery in the Custard Factory earlier today, in time for the big bash launch that’s going on as I type. The Swifty Pop Shop brings to life his childhood memories of the 70′s village corner shop – with bad plastic toys, comic books, Subbuteo pieces and sweets to break your jaw by. Swifty also gives us a pop-art alphabet lesson in our A, B, C.
The Swifty Pop Shop is open until 10th January 2010.
Typographer, sleeve designer and artist Swifty will be setting up The Swifty Pop Shop at the Sauce Gallery in the Custard Factory from Friday 11th December – selling originals, one off prints, T-shirts, skateboards and stickers and the like.
The Pop Shop, which is being brought to Birmingham by Sauce Gallery and Punch Records, will feature Swifty’s Newsagents installation. This life size shop front was partly inspired by Peter Blake’s ‘Toy Shop’ and the artist’s fond memories of a local village newsagent in Lancashire. The Shop will also be home to the A-Z of Swifty Show, including pieces based around everything from Action Man to Zebedee from the Magic Roundabout.
Looks like the small Sauce Gallery, next door to Yumm Deli in the Custard Factory, are to have an exhibition. Beggars of Lahore, a photography exhibition by Sheba Saeed, launches this Fri 30th Oct and is on display until 6th Nov.
