Digbeth formally called Birmingham’s Digital District | Podnosh Blog – Today at Digital Britain presentation in The ICC, Councillor Paul Tilsley (Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council and the Chair of the Digital Birmingham partnership) announced that Digbeth is to become a ‘digital district’:

The digital district will act as a showcase and business demonstrator to attract new businesses and inward investment and offer a strategy for economic recovery.

Which, as Nick Booth says, sounds ‘Very nice…Does that mean that Digbeth will get better mobile phone reception and something as high tech as a cash point?’ Quite.  Although it seems like Lord Carter managed to get an okay reception when he visited Fazeley Studios for the Digital Britain Unconference today.

As Jon Bounds points out, ‘It also sounds like another bit of the (still in consultation) Big City Plan being announced.’

Paradise Circus » Social Media Surgeries – The next Social Media Surgery is this Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 between 5.30pm to 7.00pm at Fazeley Studios on Fazeley Street:

Volunteers from the Birmingham bloggers group are offering to show voluntary and community groups in the city how you can make best use of social media. It doesn’t matter if you are the head of communications at a major charity or an active citizen in your neighbourhood, if you’re at all curious come along.

    No boring speeches, no jargon.

Tools like blogs, podcasts, video and social networks can give a real boost to campaigning organisations, often for no or little cost. So these experts are offering you approachable one to one help and support because they believe it can help. You may just want to see what is possible and go away and think about it. You might be itching to set up a blog and start using it.

Getgood Link: Snow Bound? Then use this as your last chance to comment on the big city plan.

Snow Bound? Then use this as your last chance to comment on the big city plan. – Nick Booth gives us a timely reminder:

Don’t let the snow distract you from an important truth: it’s the last week to get your comments in to the consultation on the Council’s Big City Plan Work in Progress document. You can email, phone, or send an old fashioned letter (all the contact details are at the link above), but this Friday (6th Feb) is the closing date.

If you’re bemused some of the ideas or language, or would like to discuss your ideas openly in public and online, then the independent Big City Talk website may be the place to go. It’s got a “plain English” version of the document and also host comments by other Brummies who care just as much as you about how the City Centre might change over the next 20 years.
