Getgood Link: Birmingham Post – Custard Factory restaurant’s row with landlords over music events

Birmingham Post – Custard Factory restaurant’s row with landlords over music events – Matthew’s Restaurant in the Custard Factory is reportedly ‘considering legal action’ for seemingly much the same reason Rogue Play Theatre felt the need to move out:

Matthew’s has accused the Custard Factory of showing a lack of consideration by allowing promoters to stage large-scale night-time events which have resulted in the restaurant losing thousands of pounds in revenue.

Fine dining and club culture is not a good mix, it seems.

RoguePlay Rehearsals: RoguePlay are Relocating. – Seems Rogue Play are looking to leave their home in the Custard Factory and find quieter premises elsewhere:

Whilst, we do love the wealth of creativity that is located in the offices of the Custard Factory with companies such as Punch! records, 7 inch cinema, Envision, Fused Magazine and Tindal Street Press only a staircase away, trying to run a theatre which aims to embrace and nurture young talent has been made almost impossible when clashing with raves and road closures. We appreciate the long standing reputation of the Custard Factory as one of Birmingham’s biggest party places but the knock on effect this has had on our customers and facilities has become too much.

Rogue Play are open to suggestions for a new venue, if somewhere springs to mind email your suggestions and comments to events@rogueplay.co.uk.

Ghouls on Film – a Women in Horror Recognition Month event – Good grief, there actually is such a thing as a Women in Horror Recognition Month. Who’d of thunk? Anyway, to mark this rather bizarre celebration of women in the horror industry there’s a programme of horror films made by, involving or about women. It’s at The Mixing Bowl Theatre in The Custard Factory on 20th Feb 2010 from 3pm. The event will include short films, two independent feature films and a scary special guest in the shape of cult star Emily Booth.

Ghouls on Film will play host to the UK premiere of the acclaimed Soska Sisters’ debut feature film, as well as a screening of Kate Glover’s outback slasher ‘Slaughtered’. The short films include a brand new short by Maude Michaud and the award-winning film ‘Pop Art’ by Amanda Boyle. Emily Booth, best known for her TV presenting and roles in films such as Evil Aliens and Doghouse will be talking about her career in horror, as well as leading a discussion on the role of women in the horror industry.

Entry to the event is £6, solely to cover costs. Any excess money (whatever the amount!) will be donated to a charity chosen on the day.
