Planning application for River Street/Fazeley Street – Now this is interesting – a planning application for:

Erection of a 14.8m MK3 dual user column with ground based cabinets and ancillary developments.

In layman’s terms – a 50 foot mobile telephone mast for two mobile phone providers with a couple of big grey cabinets at the bottom of it. Might we finally get a mobile phone signal in Digital Digbeth?

Bollard damaged – FixMyStreet – This concrete bollard on the corner of Fazeley Street and Barn Street really is a conundrum. It never stays securely where it’s meant to, just keeps getting knocked down and moved around. Poor little bollard.

Photos courtesy of a ‘fascinated’ Mike Rawlins.

'I'm fascinated as to why it keeps moving around.' says Mike Rawlins

Getgood Link: Multipack: Hack the Planet – Blog – Digital Birmingham

Multipack: Hack the Planet – Blog – Digital Birmingham – This Sat 20th Feb The Multipack, “a community of multi-talented Web professionals from across the West Midlands” are holding a hack day at One Black Bear, 191 Fazeley Street from 10am.

The aim of the day is to build a Web site or app that encourages Web people like us to think about how we can reduce the size of our carbon footprint, both in the office and on the road.

In terms of people who should attend, whilst there will be a number of web designers and programmers who are interested, I’d encourage anybody to come along who has ideas for how we can use the web to encourage people to become greener. Newcomers are certainly welcome, although no spectators–there’s no reason why people can’t chip in, and maybe learn a thing or two in the process!

'peeling letter ancient language' by Nikki Pugh

I’m loving Nikki Pugh for spotting this sign on Fazeley Street.  Is it Sanskrit? Or just in dire need of a paint job?

A friend mentioned this building demolition going on at the top of Fazeley Street to me, so I went along for a look.  I was immediately struck by the BB logo.  Does anyone know who BB were, what they did, what BB stood for? Does anyone know what’s set to stand in its place?

Getgood Link: We Make Art Experiments at Fazeley Studios

we make art – experiments: Fazeley Studios Opening – The artists talk about exhibiting their work at the Fazeley Studios opening.

The Studios are beautiful and it is starting to become a hub for creativity, which in our minds is a about time. The people behind Fazeley Studios have obviously recognised that creative people don’t always want to work in damp and dirty places such as the Custard Factory and clients want to visit clean and well-presented studios.

    Getgood Link: The Tea Factory?

The Tea Factory? – Substrakt propose something creative be done with the empty Typhoo basin and factory buildings, supported by Kate Beatty’s lovely photographs.

It seems like old factory’s make for successful ‘creative hubs’…So how about the Tea Factory?

Typhoo Tea’s premises on Bordesley Street were in use from 1892 to 1978 and now remains largely unoccupied….The Custard Factory is obviously a great asset of Digbeth, but the retail element suffers due to lack of footfall. Developing the Tea Factory could provide an enticing link from the city centre to Digbeth, and it stands proud at the end of Fazeley canal which could be an awesome feature.
