Multipack: Hack the Planet – Blog – Digital Birmingham – This Sat 20th Feb The Multipack, “a community of multi-talented Web professionals from across the West Midlands” are holding a hack day at One Black Bear, 191 Fazeley Street from 10am.
The aim of the day is to build a Web site or app that encourages Web people like us to think about how we can reduce the size of our carbon footprint, both in the office and on the road.
In terms of people who should attend, whilst there will be a number of web designers and programmers who are interested, I’d encourage anybody to come along who has ideas for how we can use the web to encourage people to become greener. Newcomers are certainly welcome, although no spectators–there’s no reason why people can’t chip in, and maybe learn a thing or two in the process!

Developing Birmingham’s Digital District: What can we learn… – Eventbrite – An event on 14th October about Birmingham’s Digital District, in Birmingham’s Digital District. In the digital Narnia that is Fazeley Studios. The seminar will consider questions such as:
- What are the critical success factors of a digital district?
- What does a digital district look and feel like elsewhere?
- How have digital districts been used to complement the success of established creative quarters?
- What has been the experience of digital districts in the recession and what role do they play in boosting economic growth?
How have local authorities in Europe worked with stakeholders such as service providers, SMEs, universities and the local community?
- How can Birmingham learn from, and use, the experiences of other European cities?
So, nothing about mobile signals or cashpoints then.

Digbeth formally called Birmingham’s Digital District | Podnosh Blog – Today at Digital Britain presentation in The ICC, Councillor Paul Tilsley (Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council and the Chair of the Digital Birmingham partnership) announced that Digbeth is to become a ‘digital district’:
The digital district will act as a showcase and business demonstrator to attract new businesses and inward investment and offer a strategy for economic recovery.
Which, as Nick Booth says, sounds ‘Very nice…Does that mean that Digbeth will get better mobile phone reception and something as high tech as a cash point?’ Quite. Although it seems like Lord Carter managed to get an okay reception when he visited Fazeley Studios for the Digital Britain Unconference today.
As Jon Bounds points out, ‘It also sounds like another bit of the (still in consultation) Big City Plan being announced.’
