The Race (2009)
The film maintains a wonderful balance between young Mary’s dream to be a racing car driver and the realism of the difficult financial times in which it is set. Because the story is relatively straightforward the brilliance comes from the performances and the subtle touches throughout the film. The movie is charming and entertaining in equal measure and will be a treat for all, young and old alike!

This Friday, The Adam & Eve will be shaking with Easy J, a gig organised in memory of Joseph Cartwright, who passed away in 2010 aged 22. All money raised on the evening will go to Acorns Children’s Hospice to help hundreds of life-limited children in Birmingham.

The Adam & Eve is hosting the event, organised by Joseph’s friends Alex O’Neill and Tom Barnes. On the line up are local bands and artists, Mods and Sods, Barnesy, Bethany Jean Conroy and Adore. Motown, ska, reggae and indie will also be played all night with Lucy Lovehart, Connor Doyle, Josh Aero and organisers Alex and Tom DJing until 5am.

There will be a raffle on the night with a range of prizes up for grabs including:

• A one hour spa treatment at the Hyatt Hotel,
• A meal for two and bottle of wine at the Junction in Harborne,
• A family of four ticket courtesy of Cadbury world,
• A three course meal for two at Imlees indian in Moseley,
• £60 cut and colour hair voucher at Renaissance hair salon,
• £25 to spend on food and drink at Bodega,
• A free makeover and photo shoot for four at Aspire Studios, and,
• 30 minutes tobogganing for two at the Snowdome in Tamworth.

So why not head down to The Adam for what promises to be a good night for a very worthy cause?!

The ethos at the OC-CC (maybe it’ll stick?!) is that EVERYTHING that can be made by hand, is. That means their sandwiches, salads, smoothies, cakes, pastries, savouries and bread are all made fresh. And with 30% all this week to celebrate their opening, you’d be mad not to pop in to give the OC-CC a try!

General Manager Simon Price said: “The biggest problem is that we have zero exercise facilities. We have been fortunate to be supported by the public, but with additional fund-raising, we need to expand and relocate to new premises.”

Birmingham Dogs’ Home was founded in 1892 on land donated by the late Sir Alfred Gooch Bart on New Canal Street. Almost a century later, the New Bartholomew Street home was officially opened by the Duchess of York in 1987.

Originally performed in 2009 in the basement of the Custard Factory, RoguePlay’s Ultima Censura is back by popular demand, this time taking place at Minerva Works.

“Spend forty intimate moments and seek to discover where your principles lie and what your fundamentals of life and law really are.”​

Ultima Censura is a live installation allowing each audience member exactly four minutes inside ten individual tents, which in turn represent the Ten Commandments. In true RoguePlay style, the performance is highly physical, utilising their performers’ best skills in acrobatics and aerial performance.

As part of their final major project, second year performing arts students at South and City College present a Night at the Moulin Rouge this Monday and Tuesday.

Tickets are very reasonably priced at £2.50, so why not go along to support Digbeth’s student population, and have a fun evening at the same time?

Taking over the entire Rainbow Complex off Adderley Street, Reggae City aims to “bring the finest international roots, reggae and dub artists in the world, alongside the best of contemporary West Midlands and UK talent!”

The event will also explore the huge influence that reggae has had on today’s music scene, and genres such as jungle, dubstep, dub and hip-hop.
