Digbeth on The Culture Show

Digbeth had a brush with fame this week, after appearing in BBC2’s The Culture Show. However, it’s not all good news. Apparently, our beloved Birmingham was recently voted the most boring city in all of Europe. I have one question: How? Why?

OK, that’s two questions, but still, the mind boggles.

Apparently “the soul’s been squeezed out of the centre of Birmingham”, but you can find it, along with lots of art, in Digbeth. The show visits Curzon Street Station, which was one of the venues for The Event recently. There’s also the appearance of Eastside Projects in an interview with Gavin Wade, an interview with Alex Lockett of Project Pigeon, and lots of local street art.

As Michael Smith says, Birmingham is only boring if you’re not willing to venture five minutes out of the city centre and into Digbeth, which quite simply, has it all!
