Well it’s been a tad quiet gigwise recently but this Weekend brings a couple of doozies to the Digbeth back streets. On Friday at the Adam & Eve Birmingham Punk/Ska promotions have managed to land Citizen Fish (ft’ Subhuman’s Dick Lucas) for a night of genteel Anarcho Punk musings. With support from Meat hook an energetic capacity crowd is guaranteed so i’d suggest you get there early for the remaining tickets on the door. 6pm, £7:00
Meanwhile up the road at The Old Wharf the Punk’s Alive promoters line up yet another internationally flavoured gig with Monica & the Explosion (ft’ Sweden’s Monica Welander and the UK Sub’s Paul Slack), it’s certainly been getting very cosmopolitan on that stage recently.£5:00 in with support from I’m a Mess.
And finally, if your ringing ears and tinnitus needs topping up on Saturday there’s a Metal night at The Old Wharf ft. Adust, Cypher 16, Collision Process and more. Another excellent freebie gig from those awfully nice BSP people, 7pm till late.
I’ll probably be at The Friday Wharf gig, may make The Adam, will certainly be having a pint so keep ‘em peeled :)
(oh, and Saturday night i’m apparently running a ‘loop round the bendy wire buzzer game’ stall at The Dirty Bristow Summer fete The Edge, Cheapside, promises to be an ‘interesting’ night of weirdness with some quality written material thrown in to boot)
After last weekends allday jollities at The Wagon & Horses The Old Wharf didn’t want to feel left out so is hosting it’s own stop outs charter this Saturday. A joint venture by Black Scorpion Promotions and Midlands Music Maniacs the line up includes amongst others The Mafia Kings, Eskimo Fires, Riotbox and headliners (deep breath) The Graham Parsnip Liquidiser Torture Think Tank. 3pm till late, Free Entry (go twice)!
qutie literally up the road at The Adam & Eve another Freebie (you really are spoilt people) with Who Shot Who? featuring a couple of members of Goldblade, kick off 8:00 with support.
And for a weekend night cap a special treat, by way as a pre Rebellion festival warm up Punks Alive collective have secured the services of Detroit’s Choking Susan. I’ve seen these a couple of times and Colleen Caffeine really does capture the true spirit of U.S garage punk typically channelling the physical prescence of Iggy Pop (except with tattoos and rather fetching Red hair bunches).
Support from The Adjusters, Freedom Faction & I’m A Mess ,7:00 till 11ish, £5:00 entry, Highly recommended!!
Coming up next week is Mirror, a new trio led by pianist Dan Nicholls featuring James Allsopp on saxophones and Dave Smith on drums. This is at the regular Jazz Club session at The Rainbow Pub on Digbeth. This is on Wednesday 28th July at 9pm.
I haven’t been to The Wagon & Horses for a while to see any gigs so on my last wander down there i was pleasantly suprised to see they’ve erected a funky new covered stage for the bands in the yard area (you would of thought i’d taken some pictures of this valuable new addition, unfortunately you thought wrong).
This weekend gives the venue opportunity to laugh in the face of the rain and show it off to full effect with a couple of gigs. First up on Friday is a benefit for The International Workers of the World ft. The Black Bombers, Dirty Revolution, Love Kate Kill George plus support and DJ, 8 till late £4:00 entry
while Saturday host’s a night of Silent Filter‘s summer Festival with a main stage AND an acoustic stage ft. The Fores, Kevin James Hadley, The Tones, Greenwood Park, Brains For Breakfast, Black Acid Band and many others (including another set from Love Kate Kill George). It’s part of of a three day event including gigs at Scruffy Murphys ( Thursday), Island Bar (Friday) and Sound Bar (Sunday). The Wagon gig kicks off at 3ish with FREE entry
Personally i can’t make the Friday gig but suggest you do if you can, hopefully see you at Saturdays bash
After Three years of building up a loyal following among Brum’s flattop fraternity Ladywood Rockabilly Club is moving shacks and is relocating to Digbeth’s Irish Centre. This weekend see’s their debut shindig at the venue ft. Paul Ansell’s Number 9 and DJ’s Hep Beat & Big Daddy. 8pm till Late, £8:00 on the door.

Two gigs of noisy noteworthiness coming up this weekend, Punks Alive put together another fine line-up of Crust and Grind on Friday at The Old Wharf ft. Grind the Enemy, Discarded and others, £4:00 entry
Meanwhile on Saturday at The Wagon & Horses local Sticksman, Face,Roadie and skinny allround goodegg Jay finally (suprisingly!) makes it to 21 and to celebrate is having a Birthday bash ft. Mangled, Alcohol Licks plus support, headlining is his band Meat Hook (though as they’re on last i’m not gonna vouch for the rhythmic time keeping).
Free entry! (cards and pressies optional).

This just in, there’s another Birthday shindig also on Saturday in honour of Nico at The Old Wharf, this one has a more metal flavour ft. Kataleptic, Eradikator, plus support from Reign of Fear and Dakesis, also free entry (birthday people are being so generous this weekend)
