The Spotted Dog in 1998

If you haven’t seen Pete’s “Pubs: Then & Now” blog before on Digbeth is Good, here’s a quick summary: Pete takes photos of pubs, mainly along the Midlands canal network, and documents how they’ve changed over the years.

The Spotted Dog in Digbeth was the subject of Pete’s most recent entry, and I’m glad for one that the pub hasn’t changed much since 1998 when Pete first visited.

The entry ends with this quote:

“[The Spotted Dog] is also one of the establishments at the forefront of the campaign to keep live music in Digbeth… more people now live nearby in the new developments and some of them don’t like the sound of music at night… Very frustrating for the pubs that were there and playing music long before the influx of new residents. So far the resistance has been successful.”

Indeed it has, and the resistance continues at Keep Digbeth Vibrant.
