If you’re around Digbeth often, if you listen to the radio, if you’re in Birmingham at all, you will not have failed to notice South Birmingham College’s recent merger with City College. The all-new South and City College is all but taking over Digbeth High Street.
The merger has brought about some new opportunities for SCC’s students, with Michelin-starred celebrity chef Glynn Purnell using the college to search for two new apprentices.
Glynn will mentor youngsters during an 11-week Introduction to Cookery course at the college, selecting two of the budding chefs at the end to become his apprentices. They will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to learn the skills of fine dining whilst working alongside the chef at Purnell’s restaurant, Ginger’s Bar and the newly launched Purnell’s Bistro.
Mike Hopkins, Principal of the college said: “Glynn is a great role model as well as a top chef, and he believes in helping young people in Birmingham, as I do. I hope this will be the start of a long partnership between Glynn and South and City College.”
