Ultrafast Broadband for Digbeth

The City Centre Enterprise Zone

Businesses in Digbeth will be among some of the first to benefit from ultrafast broadband in Birmingham.

Mark Barrow, the Strategic Planning Director at Birmingham City Council, who spoke at February’s Digbeth Summit, said the move offered huge commercial benefits for the city and the wider region and firmly reinforced Birmingham’s pre-eminent position in the UK.

Mr Barrow added that the improving digital infrastructure would encourage businesses to come to the city, particularly the enterprise zone, which straddles large sections of Digbeth. It is hoped that introducing ultrafast broadband will encourage technology firms to enhance and develop it.

The superfast broadband will be complemented by the development of a 4G network for Birmingham – another pioneering digital move – after the city was declared IBM’s Smart UK City for 2012, a significant seal of approval.

It would be difficult for us to argue that the introduction of ultrafast broadband is not an advantage for Digbeth, but do our readers think it will have as many benefits as outlined above? Please use the comments function below to share your thoughts.
