As Nicky pointed out in an earlier post last Friday saw the launch of the Birmingham Zine Festival, hopefully the first of many. This weekend is the ‘main event’ with lots of stuff going on in town but Digbethcentric is The PostCard Exhibition at The Framers, Custard Factory and of special note (and personal interest) a Film Night on Friday at The Edge.
“Come and view ‘$100 & A T-Shirt‘, Joe Biel’s documentary on zines. We’ll also have Pete Ashton talking about the emergence of the small press comics scene in the early 80s and Rob Horrocks shedding light on 80′s zine culture, in particular music zines and their influence today.”
7:30 start, Only a quid of your hard earned to get in AND there’s free Popcorn (rumour is there ‘may’ be a bar but the sensible advice is D.I.Y boozewise and B.Y.O.B(C) )
UPDATE (10/9/10): There will be a limited bar.
I’ll be there hogging the back row (even though Nic Bullen of ‘Sine Nomine’ infamy unfortunately had to pull out)
Midge x
