Electric City and the HMV Institute : 69 Magazine – Seems the HMV Institute will open its refurbished doors for the first time on Saturday 25th September for Electric City, which will also take over Factory Club and Air Nightclub:

The 14-week program of events will present some of the most compelling, forward thinking and revolutionary electronic artists on the planet to the second city and teams up with world class clubbing event brands such as Hospitality, Atomic Jam, RAM, Spectrum, Sci-Tec, Drumcode and Desolat. Comparable to Manchester’s Warehouse Project in scale, Electric City will take place over 3 unique event spaces in Digbeth’s entertainment district: The HMV Institute, The Custard Factory, and Air Nightclub.

Hmm! This should be fun. Even the sedate old Fountain pub on Cheapside has received, this week, a letter from Environmental Health (EH) warning them about a noise complaint after their “Help The Heroes” night – two guys on guitar ’til 12.30am on a Saturday night!!!
Birmingham – City of Culture??? What a hoot.
Incidentally, EH had taken the trouble to contact Licensing to find out the conditions applied to Brian’s licence and informed him that he wasn’t covered for live music. What the prats didn’t realise was that Brian had not varied the conditions of his old licence during the change-over and so is entitled to continue using up to two live musicians whenever he likes. Will this deter EH? I doubt it. I can see Brian, eventually, having to fork out a load of dough to appear in front of Licensing Cttee or Magistrates’ Court to explain the law to these tossers. Ho hum, plus ca change …!
