I’ve just been emailed an update from the Cafe at The Margarett Rose Abri in the old Post Office building on Cheapside. Here it is, thanks to the joys of copy and paste:
Hi y’awl! Happy Bank Holiday to you. Just want to flag up a few dates of events at the Cafe @ The Margarett Rose Abri for your diary.
This Thursday (TODAY) – 6th of May… a most historic day in British History!! Yep! It’s the first Thursday of the month… so It must be the monthly ‘Coffee Shop Poets’! open mic for poetry and spoken word. Opinion polls put the event as more popular than Adolph Hitler, Swine Flu and the Icelandic ash cloud! Absloutely free entry, supportive environment and frequented by very talented writers of all genres and ages – this is the perfect election refuge! Why not come down and read your work, listen to the works of other like minded poets, share your ideas and make new contacts and friends and we’ll worry about who’s going to be governing us and lining their greedy littles pockets in the morning! Starts 8.30pm
On Friday 14th May – we have our second candle lit classical guitar performance. This time we’re honoured to have Neil Muir play for us. The program will include classical pieces and South American works. With the contrast of relaxing classical chill out and the fire and passion of Latin American music – it’s a great way to unwind and be inspired for the weekend! You can bring your own wine or bathe in the wonder that is the Cafe’s magnificant coffee! tickets cost £3 – all the money will be going to the RSPCC a most worthy cause which has been nominated by Neil. doors open 7.30 – starts 8pm. Please spread the word if you know anyone who might like to attend!
A bit of a special one now! At the cafe we try to raise money for the work done by the project (which of course is a not for profit social enterprise project) and other charities such as Breakthrough, The Multiple Sclerocis Society and the RSPCC. But on Friday 28th of May, we will be raising money for a very special local cause. ‘Making a Noise for Noah’ will be a night of music and comedy to raise money for baby Noah and his family. I’ll soon be sending out further details about Noah’s moving and inspirational story and the event in question so if you can – keep the date in mind – we’d love your support. Watch this space as they say!
June 4th will see the long awaited return of ‘The Espresso Sized Theatre’ – an evening of short – sharp plays up to 20 mins long, with up to 4 actors and minimal props. Written and performed by local writers and actors. If you’d like to submit a script for EST 2 or even EST 3 – let us know. We’d prefer writers to arrange their own cast etc but if anyone fancies doing a bit of acting, they can let me know and we might be able to build up a small pool of potential actors for writers who might need some. Again – keep the date in mind as more details will be sent out later – we’ll also be sending out details of ‘Laff-a-Chino’ 2 – the 2nd of our stand up comedy nights
So turn on – tune in and drop IN to the Cafe where minds meet! See you there soon!
Stuart
