The Shout Festival!, ‘Birmingham’s festival of gay, bisexual and trans culture’ has exhibitions and events across the city over November, including quite a bit in Digbeth.
First there was the Queer Open Digbeth Projections on 5th November – a set of artists’ work was projected onto Curzon Street Station, and other locations around Digbeth. There was also the aRTpRIDE visual art show at the Vaad Gallery in the Custard Factory 11-15 Nov, where the above photo was taken. It included some great photography by Becky Tebbett of what looked like a very debauched night out in Birmingham.
It’s not all over though, there’s plenty more fun to come:
- The Fear of Queer, ‘an explosive, contemporary, theatrical exploration of Queer’ is on at the Custard Factory this Thurs 19-Sat 21 Nov.
- Brum BiFest, ‘a one-day get-together for bi people and our allies’ is on at ABPluson Lower Essex Street this Sat 21 Nov.
- If you fancy getting creative, aRTpRIDE are running a creative weekend of workshops for LGBT women Sat 28-Sun29 Nov with visual artists Becky Tebbett and Paddy Broughton, and performance poet Sophia Blackwell. The workshops culminate in performances and exhibitions at the SHOUT closing party. The workshops will be split between ABplus and The FOX, both on Lower Essex Street.
Of course there’s loads of stuff going on in places outside of Digbeth too. Check out their What’s On page for the full programme. And if you’re unable to make it, you can listen to a round up of all the SHOUT festival highlights on Sat 28 Nov at 3-5pm on Rhubarb Radio.
