VIVID are taking part in The Big Draw this Saturday 10 October by inviting you to engage directly with their current exhibition The Act of Drawing:
George Saxon and Vicky Smith offer visitors strips of celluloid onto which they may draw, scratch or mark. The celluloid is then spliced into Saxon & Smith’s spectacular 16mm film installation which sees loops of celluloid travel across VIVID‘s space, simultaneously projecting onto three different surfaces; Nancy Murphy-Spicer encourages visitors to make a series of physical drawings in a task-like manner in an attempt to see whether beauty can emerge from a mundane approach; and VALIE EXPORT invites the audience to interact with her expanded cinema work ‘Up+Down+On+Off’ by drawing onto a paper screen as a 16mm film is projected.
The Act of Drawing exhibition continues to Sat 07 Nov 2009.
VIVID also have a performance and film screening in store:
Thu 15 Oct to Fri 16 Oct at 6:08 PM – 7:25 AM – Jordan McKenzie will perform Day Into Night a performance in which he will strike matches onto the gallery wall creating a drawing the duration of which will be the length of time between sunset and sunrise.
Sat 24 Oct at 3 PM – A selection of 16mm films selected from Lightcone + a special introduction from Emmanuel Lefrant, filmmaker & director of Lightcone.
