The Stirrer – News that matters, campaigns that count for Birmingham, The Black Country and beyond – Here’s a little poetic ditty from Stirrer poet laureate Brendan Hawthorne about the row over the Rainbow:

If you were to buy a house
    Would it be
    Next-the-sea or
    If you could
    A secluded wood
    Or pipedream
    Banks of bubbling stream
    Maybe your preference
    Has an urban reference
    A city centre complex
    A modern duplex
    With skyline windows
    And streetside side shows
    All the bustle
    Of round-the-clock hustle
    Convenient shopping
    And metro hopping
    But if you choose
    Don’t get the blues
Or the bird with loud music
    Or shouted word
    If extraneous noise
    Annoys
    When moving in
    Next to existing din
    Flats with poor insulation
    Only cause consternation
    And if you feel anti-social
    Towards the locals’ local
    Perhaps you should think
    Over your pretentious drink
    And decide yourself to go
    Thus preserving the culture
    Of Birmingham’s Rainbow
