Digbeth is Good goes on holiday

I was rather surprised a couple of weeks ago to be contacted by a PR lady from BMI Baby, who offered me a weekend press trip to Belfast in return for a couple of blog posts.  Her thinking seemed to be that if I’m blogging about arts, culture, pubs and life in the Irish Quarter then I might quite enjoy blogging about the same sorts of things in Ireland as well.

As any regular readers will know, I’m rather a fan of Ireland and all things Irish.  Irish pubs and the  Irish Heritage Forum are a couple of the reasons why I love Digbeth so much.  So I said yes, as did Karen Strunks, and tomorrow we’re off for a couple of days of being shown the sites by the Belfast Tourist Board.

Sometime next week I’ll be popping a couple of posts on here along the lines of ‘Brum vs Belfast’ – a (in no way to be taken seriously) comparison of the two cities, which is my convoluted excuse for talking about Belfast in a Digbeth-based blog.  And because I thought it would make a nice change to comparing Birmingham to That London.

Without meaning to get the violins out, I’ve put a lot of unpaid time and effort into Digbeth is Good over the last year so please, pretty please, indulge my blatant going off on a jolly by putting up with a couple of in-no-way-locally-based posts.  I know it’s a bit naughty of me.

If you want to watch mine and Karen’s shenanigans unfold over the weekend (I don’t doubt they’ll become drunken) follow our Twitter accounts – @getgood and @karenstrunks.

Bon Voyage Nikki! Have a lovely time & I’m looking forward to you coming back. Do you think BMI Baby would send me somewhere gay? Can you ask your lady?

Belfast is a great city, especially now it’s not the troubles have ceased. Enjoy…

Result! Enjoy your jolly. It’s your blog to do with as you see fit. I don’t think anyone would begrudge you this.

  4. Cheers! @benjibrum I’ll ask if they can send you to Ibiza or summat ;-)

Mark Murph – my Dad’s family are from Belfast and I’ve been a few times before, so am a bit of a fan anyway. Doing the touristy things will show me the city in a whole new light, though, which I’m really looking forward to. I usually spend my visits drinking at weddings, cooing at babies and drinking tea with aunties. ;-)
