Surprise Surprise! It’s the Custard Factory! :: interactivecultures – John Hickman learns in Oslo that creativity within a city needs to be signposted so people can find it, citing our hidden gem as a classic example of how not to do it.

…if creative districts want the rest of the city to join them in their spaces, then it’s not enough to just be there: you need to give them something so they will find you. Events such as Supersonic seem to lead the way here in bringing attention to creativity in Birmingham, by bringing not just the normal Custard Factory crowd but local, national and international tourism to Digbeth.

Actually it was the other way around!
Generally speaking people have been saying you need to signpost the Custard Factory more.

What I’m saying is maybe we don’t, maybe it should be a hidden gem, and maybe it’s about what you do with the space (things like Supersonic) rather than how you signpost the way there.

    Thanks for the link!
