Here’s a depressing sight at the Abacus building on Bradford Street, and there were a couple more I couldn’t get in the shot.

One owner of a probably about 50 apartments here has gone bust. Many individual owner occupiers still live there, care about the place, make it a home. I have friends who live there and love it – it is fab.

A common problem, I understand. And one that’s set to get worse in the immediate future. It’s such a pity that landlords who’ve bitten of more than they can chew by bulk-buying tarnish things for people who live in and love the area. It’s their tenants I feel sorry for, some of whom are as emotionally attached to the place as owner-occupiers – they have no rights whatsoever and you hear awful stories of some getting as little as a few weeks’ notice to vacate. I really hope this is an isolated incident for Digbeth. Thankfully, the signs have now been taken down.

    What is your opinion?
